The Watts Towers is a group of nine major sculptures constructed of steel and adorned with a diverse mosaic of broken glass, sea shells, pottery and tile. Simon Rodia, a ceramicist employed by a local factory, built all of the structures single handedly. The Towers of Simon Rodia listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. They are a National Historic Landmark, a California State Historical Monument and designated as a California Historic Park and Historic-Cultural Monument.

Olvera Street is the birthplace of the City of Los Angeles, otherwise known as El Pueblo Historic Monument.  The colorful village features 27 historic buildings with a traditional Mexican style plaza area. Wander around the marketplace and shop for souvenirs including handcrafted Mexican wares typical of old Mexico.

October 2008 Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles

Griffith Observatory is pleased to resume direct, unreserved public drive-up access to the Observatory. Beginning Saturday, November 3, 2007, visitors no longer need advance reservations to visit. You will be able to drive up to the Observatory and park in the lot or on the adjacent roads. As always, there is no admission charge to enter the Observatory building.


November 2008 Broad Contemporary Art Museum at Los Angeles County Museum of Art

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Paino, the Broad Contemporary Art Museum will provide the LACMA campus with an extraordinary 70,000 square-foot center for contemporary art, increasing the exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art in Los Angeles to over 200,000 square feet, more than any other city in the United States.

Each floor will have two wings, east and west. The ground floor will feature two large works by Richard Serra. The second floor will be devoted to paintings and sculpture from the 1980s. There will be works by Basquiat, Bleckner, Fischel, and Golub, as well as works by women artists such as Sherman, Holzer, Levine and Krueger. The third floor will feature art produced prior to 1980. Artists such as Baldessari, Rusha, Koons, Warhol and Kelly will be presented along with other artists from that period.
